Every once in a while, a Ford Bronco comes up for sale that is more than just another used Bronco.

This is one of those Broncos.

The very first production Ford Bronco Raptor — serial number 00001 — is currently up for auction on Bring a Trailer, giving collectors and Bronco enthusiasts a rare opportunity to own a genuine piece of modern Bronco history.

And we're not talking about the first one from a particular dealership or the first one in a certain color.

We're talking VIN 001. The first production Bronco Raptor.

The Bronco Raptor That Started It All​

This 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor carries chassis number 1FMEE5JR4NLA50001 and is finished in the Raptor's unmistakable Code Orange paint.

Even more remarkable is the mileage.

The Bronco currently shows just 99 miles on the odometer, meaning the first production Bronco Raptor has essentially been preserved since new.

Under the hood is Ford's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, factory rated at 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission.

Being a Bronco Raptor, it also gets the serious off-road hardware that separated it from the rest of the Bronco lineup: HOSS suspension with Fox live-valve dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 4.70 gearing, a front stabilizer-bar disconnect and massive 37-inch BFGoodrich tires wrapped around forged 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

This Isn't VIN 001's First Auction​

Here's where the story gets even more interesting.

When Ford launched the Bronco Raptor, the company donated Bronco Raptor VIN 001 to be auctioned at Barrett-Jackson in 2022.

The historic Bronco ultimately brought an incredible:

$350,000.

That sale wasn't simply about establishing the market value of a Bronco Raptor. It was a charity auction, with the proceeds supporting the National Forest Foundation and Outward Bound USA through Ford's Bronco Wild Fund.

Four years later, VIN 001 is back on the auction block — but this time we're going to get a fascinating look at what collectors believe the first Bronco Raptor is worth on the open market.

Loaded With Raptor Goodies​

Besides its historical significance, VIN 001 is extremely well equipped.

The Code Orange exterior is paired with a Blue Onyx leather and suede interior, and the Bronco was ordered with both the Lux Package and Interior Carbon Fiber Package.

Equipment includes a 12-inch touchscreen with SYNC 4, Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker audio system, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, heated power front seats, navigation, Ford Co-Pilot360 technology and carbon-fiber interior trim.

Of course, you also get everything that made the original Bronco Raptor such an outrageous machine: the widened body, huge fender flares, Raptor graphics, vented hood, heavy-duty modular bumper, rock rails, bash plates and active exhaust.

Only 99 Miles​

Perhaps the most surprising part of this Bronco's story is how little it has actually been driven.

Four years after being built, VIN 001 still shows only 99 miles.

The Bring a Trailer listing also states that its Carfax report shows no accidents or other reported damage. The Bronco is currently being offered on dealer consignment in Georgia with a clean Tennessee title.

In other words, whoever buys this isn't simply buying an early Bronco Raptor.

They're buying what amounts to a preserved piece of Bronco history.

What Will Bronco Raptor VIN 001 Bring This Time?​

That's the big question.

The previous $350,000 sale happened under very different circumstances because it was a charity auction. That makes this Bring a Trailer sale particularly interesting.

This auction may give us a much better indication of what collectors are willing to pay today for the historical significance of owning Bronco Raptor #1.

As of September 22, bidding had reached $51,000, with the auction scheduled to end Thursday, September 24 at 11:23 a.m. Pacific Time. Bring a Trailer uses an extended-bidding system, so bids placed during the final two minutes can extend the auction.

With VIN 001, only 99 miles and the distinction of being the Bronco that kicked off production of Ford's most extreme street-legal Bronco, we'll be watching closely to see where that number ends up.

Will it get anywhere near its original $350,000 charity-auction price?
