For decades, the Jeep Wrangler has been the name most closely associated with open-air, body-on-frame off-roading in America. When Ford brought the Bronco back for the 2021 model year, everyone knew exactly which vehicle Ford had in its sights.
Five years later, the sales battle is getting serious.
The Ford Bronco is having a record-setting 2026, and for the first time since its return, there is a legitimate question worth asking:
Can the Ford Bronco actually beat the Jeep Wrangler in annual U.S. sales?
We're not there yet — but the numbers show that Ford is closing the gap.

Wrangler Came Out Swinging in Q1​

Jeep started 2026 with a sizable advantage.
During the first quarter:
That's a substantial lead after only three months.
If that trend had continued throughout the year, this wouldn't be much of a contest.
But it didn't.

Bronco Turned the Tables in Q2​

Ford came roaring back during the second quarter.
Bronco sales jumped from 31,197 in Q1 to 45,739 in Q2 — an incredible 46.6 percent quarter-over-quarter increase.
Wrangler moved in the opposite direction, dropping from 44,461 in Q1 to 41,793 in Q2.
That produced something Bronco fans have been waiting to see:

Ford Bronco outsold Jeep Wrangler for an entire quarter.​

Ford didn't hide its excitement, either. The company specifically highlighted that Bronco set both a record second quarter and record first half, while outselling the Jeep Wrangler during Q2.

The First-Half Score: Jeep Still Leads​

Wrangler's strong first quarter means Jeep remained ahead after six months.
But look at what happened to the gap.
After Q1, Wrangler led by 13,264.
After Q2, that advantage had fallen to 9,318.
In other words, Bronco erased 3,946 vehicles — nearly 30 percent of Jeep's Q1 advantage — in just three months.
Now things get interesting.

Ford Has Already Sold 102,215 Broncos Through August​

Unlike Stellantis, Ford publishes monthly U.S. sales figures, so we already know how Bronco has performed during the first two months of Q3.
Ford sold:
13,075 Broncos in July
12,204 Broncos in August
That brings Bronco's 2026 total through August to an impressive:

102,215 Broncos sold​

That's also 3 percent higher than the 99,239 Broncos Ford sold through the same point in 2025.
Here's Bronco's 2026 performance so far:
The Bronco has therefore averaged approximately 12,777 sales per month through the first eight months of 2026.

Can Bronco Actually Catch Wrangler?​

That's the million-dollar question.
We don't have a clean Wrangler number through August because Stellantis reports its U.S. sales quarterly rather than providing the same monthly breakdown Ford does.
So we're going to resist the temptation to compare Ford's August YTD number against an estimated Wrangler number.
We'll know much more when Q3 officially closes.
What we do know is this:
Wrangler led Bronco by 13,264 after Q1.
Bronco then beat Wrangler by 3,946 during Q2.
That reduced Jeep's first-half advantage to 9,318 vehicles.
And Ford has since sold another 25,279 Broncos in July and August.
That means the race is very much alive.

Here's What Bronco Needs to Do​

At the halfway point, Bronco needed to outsell Wrangler by 9,319 vehicles over the final six months to finish ahead for the year.
Put another way, Ford needed to beat Jeep by an average of roughly 1,553 vehicles per month during the second half.
That's a tall order.
But it's not impossible.
Bronco already beat Wrangler by an average of about 1,315 vehicles per month during Q2.
If Ford can improve slightly on that advantage during the second half — or if Wrangler sales weaken — the annual race could come down to the final months of 2026.

The Trend May Be More Important Than the Current Lead​

Perhaps the most interesting part of this story isn't who is currently ahead.
It's the direction the two vehicles have been moving.
Bronco sales jumped 46.6 percent between Q1 and Q2, while Wrangler sales declined approximately 6 percent.
Compared with Q2 2025, Bronco sales were up 15.9 percent, while Wrangler sales were down roughly 12 percent.
That's a pretty significant divergence.
Bronco isn't simply having a good year.
It's gaining ground while its biggest competitor lost momentum during Q2.

Bronco Is Having a Record Year​

There is another piece of the puzzle.
Ford's 76,936 first-half Bronco sales were the best first-half performance for the modern Bronco, and its 45,739 Q2 sales established another record.
Now Ford has crossed 100,000 Bronco sales before September even began.
For perspective, Ford sold approximately 146,000 Broncos during all of 2025.
At its current 2026 pace of roughly 12,777 vehicles per month, Bronco would theoretically finish the year at around:

153,000 Broncos​

That would put Ford on pace for another extremely strong year.
Whether that's enough to beat Wrangler depends on what happens at Jeep during the final four months.

Q3 Could Tell Us Everything​

September is now the month to watch.
Once Stellantis releases its complete Q3 Wrangler numbers, we'll finally be able to compare the two vehicles through nine months.
If Wrangler rebuilds its lead, Ford's chances of catching Jeep before December become much slimmer.
But if Bronco wins Q3 — particularly if it beats Wrangler by several thousand vehicles again — suddenly we're looking at a legitimate fourth-quarter showdown.
And imagine that headline:

For a vehicle that only returned to Ford showrooms five years ago, that would be a major accomplishment.

The Bronco vs. Wrangler Battle Isn't Over​

Jeep Wrangler remains ahead based on the latest complete head-to-head sales period.
At the same time, Ford has accomplished something that should have Jeep's attention.
Bronco beat Wrangler during Q2.
Bronco recorded its best first half ever.
Bronco sales topped 100,000 through August.
And Bronco has been steadily eating into the advantage Wrangler established at the beginning of the year.
Can Ford erase the rest of that gap before December 31?
We're not ready to bet against the Bronco.
Q3 should give us our answer — or set us up for one heck of a Bronco-versus-Wrangler showdown to finish 2026.
